Project Goals
Our Mobile China project examines local factors that shape technology design in China. Using ethnography and customer stories, we track emerging mobile trends shaping the future of the network in China and world-wide.
Three Activities for 2005 and 2006
We seek to engage with multinational and Chinese companies in three related capacities:
1. Participation in the Mobile China study. Sponsors of the project are able to participate in the study of networked mobile devices throughout its life cycle and gain special access to research outcomes. A pilot project will begin in Fall 2005 in collaboration with faculty and graduate students at renowned Tsinghua University in Beijing, China’s top science and engineering university.
2. Consulting work in mainland China. We initiate and execute cultural studies and experience design for consumer electronics and business strategy. Our consulting work leverages ten years of Silicon Valley business consulting in financial services, online networks, kids’ entertainment and the built environment, with a network of
Asian researchers and designers.
3. Video ethnography and organizational effectiveness trainings. Workshops and audits to improve internal capabilities for understanding global customers and trends, innovating based on future scenarios, and communicating change within large organizations. Ethnographic methods combine academic training (Stanford PhD, 1996)
with collaboration and multi-media tools.
